Today, being the capital of independent Uzbekistan, Tashkent has become a center of science and culture and has acquired a new look, combining the past with the present. It has become a platform for holding international summits, forums, cultural and sporting events of the highest level. Most of the multinational population of Uzbekistan, consisting of representatives of more than 130 nations, live in Tashkent. The city's updated infrastructure and transport system has made Tashkent a metropolis along with other cities in Central Asia.

The Tashkent TV tower is the visiting card of the capital. Each city has its own visiting card. It is visible from afar, people look at it from the bottom up. This is the Tashkent TV Tower - one of the most beautiful and tall TV towers in Central Asia.

Since 1960, television and radio have taken an important place in the cultural life of Uzbekistan. Work on preparing the project for the new television tower began in a short time. The task of the specialists was to build the tallest building in Central Asia and solve all the tasks assigned to them. In 1978, construction began on a new television tower, which took 6 years to complete. On January 15, 1985, the national flag of Uzbekistan began to fly at the highest point of the TV Tower.

The height of the TV tower is 375 meters, its long spear-shaped tip is visible from anywhere in the city. The total weight of the structure exceeds 6,000 tons. The lobby of the TV tower is decorated with mosaic panels and models of the tallest towers in the world. Among them, the Tashkent TV tower took an honorable 10th place.

Anyone can climb to the observation deck of the tower and watch a stunning view of the city from a height of 110 meters, from a bird's eye view. The tower also houses the Koinot restaurant, which has a special rotating platform.

At night, thousands of lights shine on the tower, this beauty and grandeur fascinates people.

The Eastern bazaar “Chorsu”. The main attraction of Tashkent – the huge Chorsu bazaar – is located on the central square “Eski Juva”, in the very heart of the old city.

It has been known since the Middle Ages, at around the X century. Everyone who comes to this bazaar is as if they are entering an oriental fairy tale. Beauty in the stalls, abundance of goods, wide rows, polite sellers... The whole history of Uzbekistan is embodied here. The variety of goods is impossible to list: hats and tunics, scarves made from national fabrics, ceramics and clay products, jewelry and handicrafts, gifts, oriental sweets, spices, fruits, vegetables and many other goods. Here you can see foreign and local traders, artisans, rich farmers and ordinary workers.The variety of dried fruits will pleasantly surprise you. These are raisins, salted seeds, nuts, dried apricots, peanuts in kiyama and sesame. Oriental sweets - navvat, parvarda, pashmak, kholva, kozinaki. It is impossible to ignore the rainbow of spices and aromatic herbs: cinnamon, saffron, black and red pepper, nutmeg, peppercorns, cumin, coriander, ginger, dried vegetables.

Next to the food pavilion there are rows where you can try national Uzbek dishes. Already from afar you can feel the aroma of pilaf, shish kebab and samsa. Here you will be offered norin (with cold soup and noodles), kazy (horse meat sausage), gumma, hasip (homemade sausage), fried fish, khonim and manti, pea soup (a dish made from beef and peas) and lamb ribs. Even if you are not hungry, you will not be able to stand traditional Uzbek dishes. You can try the dishes in the teahouse with freshly baked bread.

The Chorsu bazaar is a piece of history that goes back to thousands of years.

Tashkent metro

If you visit the capital of Uzbekistan, be sure to use the Tashkent metro. This is one of the main attractions of the city.

Each station of the Tashkent metro is a masterpiece of architecture and art created by different masters, a unique art gallery that will take you on a unique journey into the history of the peoples of Uzbekistan! Traditional patterns at stations and great sayings of sages, images of heroes, poets and thinkers, unique Uzbek mosaics.

Chilanzar metro line. Construction of the metro began in 1973 and the first line Chilanzarskaya was opened 4 years later. Initially it consisted of 9 stations. Later, in 1980, 3 more stations were built. Today the length of the route is 16.8 km and it runs from the southwest of the city through the center to the northeast.

Uzbekistan metro line. In 1984, 5 more stations of the new Uzbekistan metro line were put into operation. On the Uzbekistan line, being 14.2 km long, 11 stations have been opened in 8 years. Alisher Navoi station is the transition point from the Chilanzar line to the Pakhtakor station.

Yunusabad metro line. This route was opened during the years of independence - in 2001. It has 6 stations; 2 stations serve as a transition point to other lines: “Ming Orik” - a transition to the “Oybek” station of the Uzbekistan line and “Yunus Rajabi” - a transition to the “Amir Temur” station of the Chilanzor line.

Overground metro. Construction of the ring road began on October 1, 2017. The length of the new route is 52.1 km. Of these, 50.5 kilometers are above ground, along a 6-meter-high overpass and 1.6 kilometers are underground. The new metro line will have 35 stations. At present, 7 stations are open from the Dustlik station to the Kuylik bazaar and 5 stations of the new Sergeli line.

Humo Arena is a multifunctional ice palace.

Ice and Uzbekistan may seem like incompatible concepts. However, since the beginning of 2019, after the completion of the Humo Arena sports and entertainment complex, it became possible to come to games and tournaments in hockey, curling, short track and figure skating. Since September 2019, regular matches of the Major Hockey League championship have been held here.

The Ice Palace, with its size, beauty, modern architectural solutions and multifunctionality, makes a strong impression on people. It is built in the shape of the wings of the bird of happiness Humo. The complex meets all modern safety and equipment requirements and can accommodate 12,500 spectators.
