The programme covers the set of professional fields related to building, preserving and organising library collections, cataloguing and indexing documents, the fundamentals of bibliography and source studies, creating digital libraries and information resource databases, information retrieval systems and digitisation technologies, providing information and bibliographic services to readers, and managing library operations. Graduates may work as librarians, bibliographers and specialists in state and non-state libraries, information resource centres, archives and museums, as staff of the information resource centres of higher and specialised secondary education institutions, as information specialists in publishing houses, research institutes and information agencies, and in the records management and archive departments of public administration bodies.
