Karshi State University
The history of Karshi State University dates back to September 1, 1945, when it began operating as the Karshi branch of the Bukhara United Pedagogical and Teachers’ Institute. On February 28, 1992, by a decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, it was granted the status of Karshi State University. Today, it is recognized as one of the leading higher education institutions in the southern region of Uzbekistan.
Throughout its history, the university has trained more than 70,000 specialists for various sectors of the national economy. Nearly 30,000 of them graduated during the years of Uzbekistan’s independence.
According to employer assessments, the university ranks among the top 30 higher education institutions in Uzbekistan. Its corporate partners include Shurtan Gas Chemical Complex LLC, Mubarek Gas Processing Plant, Dehkanabad Potash Plant JSC, the Kashkadarya regional departments of preschool and school education, and Karshi Agrocluster LLC.
Karshi State University is a large multidisciplinary higher education institution operating within a multi-level education system. The university implements international programs in cooperation with universities and business schools in Russia, Belarus, Germany, the Netherlands, France, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
Over the years, the university has educated tens of thousands of highly qualified professionals. Its graduates hold important positions in public administration, economics, and politics. Among them are government officials, members of parliament, executives of major corporations and banks, university rectors, and holders of doctoral degrees.

Currently, the university consists of 12 faculties and 44 departments covering Physics, Mathematics and Computer Science, Chemistry and Biology, Geography and Agronomy, History, Economics, Foreign Languages, Philology, Pedagogy, Art Studies, Sports, and Medicine.
The university enrolls more than 18,000 students and employs over 1,000 professors and academic staff members.

Opportunities for International Students
The primary requirement for admission of international applicants to Karshi State University is successfully passing an interview designed to assess the knowledge and skills of applicants who have submitted their applications in accordance with established procedures.
International applicants who successfully complete the interview and submit the required documents to the university must provide citizenship-related documents to the Admissions Committee. Their enrollment is then formalized according to the established regulations. The main required documents include:
- a completed application form;
- the original diploma and a notarized copy (for bachelor's degree applicants — a secondary specialized education certificate with transcript; for master's and second higher education applicants — a bachelor's diploma with transcript; for doctoral applicants — a master's diploma with transcript);
- 3×5 cm photographs;
- the original passport.
The university is ready to provide international students with the necessary assistance and guidance throughout all stages of the visa application process.
International students officially admitted to Karshi State University are required to:
- comply with the university’s internal regulations;
- observe the laws of the Republic of Uzbekistan concerning visas and migration matters;

International partnerships
International Cooperation
In pursuit of the continuous development of international cooperation, Karshi State University has established strategic partnerships with leading higher education institutions and research centers in more than 25 countries worldwide. In accordance with Resolution No. 2909 of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the university currently maintains cooperation agreements with more than 70 foreign universities and organizations. These partnerships encompass joint academic programs, student and faculty exchanges, scientific research, and international grant projects.
The university hosts the Institut Français de Karshi, established in cooperation with Bordeaux III University of France, as well as the Chinese Language Center, created in partnership with Anxin Pedagogical University of China to prepare students for the international HSK examination. Within the framework of a joint educational program with the Privolzhsky Research Medical University of Russia, 126 students are currently enrolled in medical studies. In addition, joint master's degree programs have been launched with leading universities in Kazakhstan and Russia. Since 2010, a volunteer program implemented in cooperation with the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) has been successfully operating at the university.

In 2025, the university enrolls 45 international students from India, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Kyrgyzstan. Language courses
Language Courses
Karshi State University has created comprehensive conditions for high-quality foreign language learning, which is an essential component of preparing highly qualified and internationally competitive specialists. Through specialized language centers operating under the Faculty of Foreign Languages, the university provides students with opportunities to study Korean and Chinese in depth.
KOICA Center
The KOICA Center, operating under the Faculty of Foreign Languages, was established for students interested in learning Korean and works in cooperation with the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA). The center hosts Shin Yuhe, a specialist from South Korea, who assists students in improving their pronunciation and gaining a deeper understanding of Korean culture. One of the center’s primary objectives is to prepare students for the internationally recognized TOPIK (Test of Proficiency in Korean) examination, which certifies Korean language proficiency required for studying, working, and participating in research projects in South Korea.
Chinese Language Center
The Chinese Language Center was established for students interested in Chinese language and culture and provides instruction based on some of China’s most respected educational programs. In accordance with the cooperation agreement between Karshi State University and Anxin Pedagogical University of China, Chinese professors regularly teach at the center. In particular, PhD Wang Yongbing taught during the 2024–2025 academic year, Professor Liu Xue Mei conducted classes during the summer break, and PhD Zhen Shuting has been engaged for the 2025–2026 academic year.
Since September 18 of the current academic year, Chinese language classes have been regularly conducted in two shifts, with 15 students in each group. The courses are offered free of charge to all university students and staff members. The center specializes in preparing learners for the international HSK (Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi) certification examination, which is highly valuable for those planning to study or work in China.
Thus, the foreign language education system at Karshi State University provides students with extensive opportunities for academic and professional development, helping them obtain internationally recognized certificates and build a strong foundation for an international career.
Opportunities for students
The university student won a prize at the Asian Championship
On November 17-25 of this year, the Asian Armwrestling Championship among youth, teenagers and adults was held in Samarkand.
The continental championship, which was attended by 1300 athletes from 20 countries, was significant as it contributed to the development of this type of sport and popularization among young people.
Happily, Otabek Jabbarov, a student of the 4th stage of the Faculty of History of Karshi State University, participated in the Asian Championship and won silver medals in the 85 kg weight category in the right-hand competition and bronze medals in the left-hand competition.

Faculty of Social Sciences
The Faculty of Social Sciences of Karshi State University is one of the faculties covering humanitarian and social science fields within the university structure. The faculty was established as a result of improving the university structure and integrating relevant academic programs.
The faculty’s activities are organized based on the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On Education” and the National Program for Personnel Training, and are aimed at training highly qualified specialists in social sciences, humanities, psychology, sociology, and social development.

About the Faculty
The Faculty of Geography and Agronomy at Karshi State University is one of the faculties within the university structure covering natural sciences and agricultural fields. The faculty was established on September 23, 2021, following its separation from the Faculty of Natural Sciences.
The faculty operates in accordance with the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On Education” and the National Training Program and is aimed at training highly qualified specialists in agriculture, geography, ecology, and environmental protection.

About the Faculty
The Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science at Karshi State University was established in 1956 and is one of the oldest and leading faculties of the university. It has a long history and has been training highly qualified specialists in mathematics and computer technologies.
Over the years, numerous scientific and pedagogical schools have been formed in mathematics, informatics, and computer technologies, and graduates are working in education systems, research institutions, and industrial sectors both in Uzbekistan and abroad.

About the Faculty
The Faculty of Sports at Karshi State University began its activity in 1965 as an independent unit in the field of physical culture, separating from the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the Karshi State Pedagogical Institute. In 1971, it was transformed into the Faculty of Physical Education. Since 2023, it has been renamed the Faculty of Sports.
The faculty is aimed at training qualified specialists in physical education and sports. Students gain modern knowledge and skills in sports disciplines, teaching methodology, and sports organization.

About the Faculty
The Faculty of Philology (Uzbek Language and Literature) at Karshi State University is one of the oldest and historically established structural units of the university. Its history dates back to September 1, 1945, during the activity of the Karshi branch of the Bukhara United Pedagogical and Teacher Training Institute, when training of specialists in Uzbek language and literature began.
In 1958, the Faculty of Uzbek Language and Literature was officially established. In subsequent years, due to various organizational changes, it functioned as the Faculty of History and Philology, Faculty of Philology, and Faculty of Uzbek Philology. On December 10, 2019, following the renewal of the university’s organizational structure, it was reorganized as the Faculty of Philology and continues its activity in its current form.

About the Faculty
The Faculty of Foreign Languages at Karshi State University was first established in 1965 with the admission of students in English and German language programs to train specialists in foreign languages. In 1968, it was officially established as the “Faculty of Foreign Languages” by the order of the Ministry of Higher Education.
After the university gained status in 1992, the faculty continued its activities as the “Faculty of Foreign Languages.” In later years, the university structure changed several times, and in 2021 the faculty was divided into “Romano-Germanic Philology” and “English Philology.” In 2023, it was reorganized again and re-established as the current “Faculty of Foreign Languages.”
The faculty specializes in training highly qualified professionals in modern philology and translation studies, focusing on English, German, French, and other foreign languages. Students gain knowledge in language skills, translation theory and practice, and linguistic analysis.

About the Faculty
The Faculty of Pedagogy at Karshi State University began its activities in 1956, initially functioning as the Department of Pedagogy and Primary Education within the Faculty of History and Philology. Since 1960, it has operated as an independent Faculty of Pedagogy and Primary Education. Since 2014, it has been known as the “Faculty of Pedagogy.”
In 2018, preschool and primary education programs were separated from the faculty. Since 2020, the faculty has been operating in its current structure. It specializes in training highly qualified specialists in pedagogy, psychology, and primary education.

About the Faculty
The Faculty of Chemistry and Biology at Karshi State University was established on January 20, 1960, under the name "Faculty of Chemistry and Biology." In 1994, the Natural Sciences Center was established on the basis of the faculty. In 2001, the Center included the Faculties of Chemistry and Geography and Biology and Soil Science. On August 26, 2005, these faculties were merged and renamed the Faculty of Chemistry and Biology. From November 5, 2011, the faculty operated as the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Geography, and from July 8, 2014, as the Faculty of Natural Sciences. Since October 2021, it has again been granted the status of the Faculty of Chemistry and Biology.
The faculty carries out its activities in accordance with the regulatory framework of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the field of education and specializes in training highly qualified specialists in chemistry, biology, and biotechnology. Particular attention is paid to the effective organization of the educational process, coordination of students' academic and research activities, improvement of teaching methodologies, and development of scientific potential.
