About the university
In order to promote physical education and sports in the Republic of Karakalpakstan, create the necessary conditions for encouraging a healthy lifestyle among the population, especially young people, and prepare talented youth for participation in international sports competitions, the Nukus Branch of the Uzbekistan State University of Physical Education and Sport was established in accordance with Resolution No. 924 of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated November 13, 2018, “On the Establishment of the Nukus Branch of the Uzbekistan State University of Physical Education and Sport.”
The first Director of the Branch was Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor Bayram Jaqsimuratovich Mambetov.
Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor Darmenbay Esnazarovich Nurishov was appointed First Deputy Director for Youth Affairs and Spiritual-Educational Work. Candidate of Historical Sciences Baxram Bekmuratovich Utemuratov was appointed Deputy Director for Academic Affairs, while Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor Maxsetbay Ziynatdinovich Aytimbetov was appointed Deputy Director for Research and Innovation.
The main objectives of the Branch were defined as ensuring the high-quality training of highly qualified specialists in accordance with international standards in the fields of Sports Activity, Physical Education and Sports Management, Physical Education and Sports in Preschool and Primary Education, and Sports Psychology. The Branch is also tasked with addressing scientific and technological challenges related to the development of sports and health-improvement services, conducting scientific and practical research focused on the sports sector using advanced international experience, implementing educational and research projects, and actively involving specialists in educational and scientific activities.
Furthermore, the Branch aims to strengthen cooperation with leading national and international higher education institutions and research centers, as well as continuously enhance its scientific and pedagogical potential by regularly sending promising graduates to master's and doctoral programs at prestigious universities and scientific institutions in Uzbekistan and abroad.

International partnerships
Report on the Activities Implemented by the Department of International Relations
During the 2023–2024 academic year, cooperation agreements were signed with the Kazakh Academy of Sport and Tourism of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University, the Bashkir Institute of Physical Culture, and academies of physical education and mass sports. Partnership relations are currently being actively developed.
On November 2, 2023, the Rector of Polessky State University, Valeriy Ivanovich Dunay, visited the Nukus branch of the Uzbekistan State University of Physical Education and Sport. Agreements were signed between the Nukus branch and Polessky State University on international cooperation, including academic mobility of students, researchers, and faculty members; organization of lectures, conferences, and seminars; improvement of the educational process; implementation of modern teaching methods and systems; application of innovative technologies; and the establishment of joint master’s degree programs.
From September 29 to October 4, 2023, representatives of Polessky State University conducted hourly-based classes, master classes, and seminar-trainings at the branch.
From December 4 to 14, 2023, faculty members of the branch completed a short-term scientific internship at L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University (ranked among the Top-1000 universities).
On January 17, 2024, Associate Professor Aynura Abdrakhmanovna Zhenbekova from M. Auezov South Kazakhstan Research University delivered an online seminar titled “The Role of Spiritual Connections of Culture and Society in Professional Activity.”
From March 27 to 29, 2024, Professor Vartanian Avak Mikhaylovich from Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno conducted lectures and seminar-trainings at the branch.
From April 1 to 3, 2024, Professor Orazov Shamurat Baymanovich from Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University conducted lectures and master classes.
From May 8 to 10, 2024, Associate Professor Marinich Vitaliy Vladimirovich from Polessky State University conducted classes at the Department of Martial Arts and Natural Sciences.
On November 28, 2024, Associate Professor Ulbosyn Sametkhanovna Marchibayeva from L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University delivered an online seminar titled “National Sports of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan: Traditions and Modernity.”
To date, agreements and memorandums have been concluded with 14 foreign higher education institutions. However, it should be noted that the implementation of joint research projects and academic mobility programs at the departmental level is not yet at the required level.
In 2024–2025, cooperation agreements were signed with the Bashkir Institute of Physical Culture, Moscow City Pedagogical University, Baishev University, and Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.
On March 4, 2025, in the city of Bursa (Turkey), a meeting was held with the Honorary Consul of Uzbekistan, businessman and investor Ali Baklan, regarding expanding investment attraction and increasing export potential.
On March 17–19, 2025, the Deputy Director for Research and Innovation completed a short-term scientific internship at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.
In 2025, a delegation from Chungbuk Health & Science University (Republic of Korea) visited the branch, and a memorandum was signed on bilateral cooperation, including student exchange within the framework of academic mobility.
Within this cooperation, four foreign Taekwondo specialists conducted specialized training sessions for one month in specialized sports schools in Nukus, contributing to the attraction of foreign investment.
Additionally, under a mutual agreement with the Uzbekistan Surfing and Extreme Water Sports Federation, four “Concept 2” ergometer training machines worth USD 20,400 were donated to the branch free of charge.
Under a grant program of Shihezi University (People’s Republic of China), three faculty members were sent for professional development training.
These activities contribute to strengthening international cooperation, implementing advanced international experience in practice, and increasing export potential in the field of physical education and sport.
Furthermore, Shihezi University provided educational and methodological materials as a gesture of friendly assistance.
On October 25, 2025, Denis Aleksandrovich Konopatskiy, Director of the Institute for Retraining and Advanced Training of Specialists under the Belarusian National Technical University, paid an official visit to the branch. During the visit, agreements aimed at strengthening and expanding bilateral cooperation were signed between the parties.
On April 14, 2026, faculty members of the branch, Ulugbek Jarilkapov and Dilnura Astankulova, actively participated in the XI International Scientific and Practical Conference entitled “Science and Education in the Era of Artificial Intelligence: From Global Risks to New Strategies,” dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Baishev University.
From May 1 to May 31, 2026, two faculty members of our university, I. Mambetnazarov and A. Yakupbayev, successfully completed a highly productive international academic mission within the framework of international cooperation.
Owing to their outstanding expertise and scientific potential, they were awarded a prestigious international grant worth USD 10,000. Under this grant, they spent one month on an academic and pedagogical assignment at one of the leading higher education institutions in Central Asia — Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.
From June 2 to June 26, 2026, our university faculty members A. Genjemuratov and A. Yusupov successfully completed their scientific internship in the People’s Republic of China.
Thanks to their remarkable academic achievements and professional competence, they secured a major international grant totaling USD 30,000. Through this grant, they undertook a scientific internship for nearly one month at one of China’s prestigious higher education institutions — Shihezi University.
In conclusion, the Nukus Branch of the Uzbek State University of Physical Education and Sport is consistently carrying out effective activities aimed at developing international relations, enhancing the scientific capacity of its faculty members, expanding student academic mobility, and strengthening strategic partnerships with foreign higher education institutions.

Nukus branch of Uzbekistan State University of Physical Education and Sports was established. Today , Nurishov Darmenbay Esnazarovich , dean of the Faculty of Sports , is working at the branch. Kuralbaev Azizbek Kuralbaevich , head of the department of physical education theory and humanities , Toylibaev Sultanbek Muhidovich , head of the department of wrestling and natural sciences , and Seytmuratov Timur Shamshetovich , head of the department of sports games. In order to popularize physical education and sports among students , the Oral sports club was established.
Doctor of philosophy in pedagogical sciences , professor Erimbetov Bayrambay Karlibaevich has been appointed director of the Nukus branch of Uzbekistan State University of Physical Education and Sports from September 6, 2023.
First deputy director of Nukus branch of Uzbekistan State University of Physical Culture and Sports for Youth Affairs and Spiritual-Enlightenment Affairs , associate professor Haydarov Rustam Maratovich , appointed on September 6 , 2023.
