About the university

The History of the foundation of the Institute of National Variety named after Bоtir Zokirov.

Uzbek pop music, despite its relative popularity, has a certain historical basis. The bright performing potential, rich and productive scope of the first pop artists, who played a decisive role in its formation and early development, formed the basis of modern Uzbek singing and became important factors in the development of this layer of folk art as a new and folk art of the 20th century. Among such people was Botir Zokirov (1936.04.26.-1985.23.1), World stage star of the 20th century, famous artist, talented creator. His creative phenomenon literally became the motivation for the qualitative improvement of modern Uzbek musical culture and art of the twentieth century.

Botir Zokirov is known among our people as an accomplished pop singer. However, during his short life (49 years), his works in drama, directing, cinema, prose, and fine arts were marked by great talent. The originality of B. Zokirov’s talent served as the basis for the formation of a bright and unique school of pop interpretation, as well as the birth of such a mature pop group as “Music Hall,”   the only one in our Republic, but also throughout Asia in general.

With his initial experience in the pop genre, Botir Zokirov was one of the first who defined the national image of the Uzbek pop music at the stage of its formation through the “complicated path” of comparing and identifying the complexity of the artistic styles of oriental performers, their common and individual characteristics, similarities and differences, a combination of oriental and Western singing traditions.

Based on the results achieved over many years of tireless work,                      self-improvement, creative activity in the ensemble and pop symphony orchestra,   Botir Zokirov’s unique “individual” style of performance was created. Each work performed by the singer on stage is felt with the heart and sincerely expressed in a “painful” voice. A singer who has the ability to stage songs through one tone, a certain melodic line that is in harmony with the orchestra. An important aspect of Botir Zokirov’s performing style is his high artistic taste and culture, and from the point of view of interpretation, he has received recognition from international experts. By decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated August 26, the famous artist, People's Artist of Uzbekistan Botir Zokirov (1936-1985) was awarded by the Order “Respected by people and Homeland.”

“With his enormous talent, unique and inimitable creativity, he laid the foundations of the Uzbek stage, his incomparable contribution to the development of national culture, the spread of its glory among the peoples of the world, his unforgettable services in educating the younger generation in the Spirit of love and loyalty to the Motherland, that was described in awarding document.

In accordance with the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan  No.5261 dated October 16, 2021, the Institute was created in order to create national schools of pop performance, train highly qualified specialists, accelerate the development of national pop art through the effective use of scientific potential, as well as by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated October 2, 2020, in accordance with decision No. PQ-4908 “On the wide celebration of the 85th anniversary of the birth of the People’s Artist of Uzbekistan Botir Zakirov”,in  according to the decree an Institute called the National Institute of Variety Arts which was created in honor of the famous artist named after     Botir Zokirov at the State Conservatory of Uzbekistan.
