International Internship in Samarkand: U.S. Students Gain Practical Experience at SIUT

American students, Uzbek youth, experienced professors, and real-world projects — this is the atmosphere that has developed in recent weeks at Samarkand International University of Technology.

American students, Uzbek youth, experienced professors, and real-world projects — this is the atmosphere that has developed in recent weeks at Samarkand International University of Technology.

The summer internship program, implemented in cooperation with Resource Exchange International (REI), one of the respected U.S.-based organizations in the field of international education and cultural exchange, has become an important part of university life. Today, students from leading universities in the United States are actively participating in classes, laboratory work, and projects at SIUT.

The memorandum of cooperation signed between SIUT and REI in 2023 is now producing tangible results. Within the framework of this partnership, opportunities for international internships and experience exchange are expanding for SIUT students, while American professors are being actively involved in the university’s educational process.

This year, as part of the REI Uzbekistan Summer Internship Program (UZSIP), seven students from prestigious U.S. universities are participating in the international internship program at SIUT.

It is worth noting that this internship marks the third consecutive year of American students completing internships at SIUT through the REI Uzbekistan Summer Internship Program (UZSIP), reflecting the continued growth and effectiveness of the partnership between REI and the university.

Computer Science student Elliott Lowman is conducting practical programming sessions for SIUT students. Mechanical Engineering students Brady Engel and Brandon Byers are working on an innovative electric motor project in cooperation with Ulugbek Amonov, Head of the SIUT Creative Engineering Center.

In addition, the American students are organizing training sessions for students of the Faculty of Design on mathematics, AutoCAD, professional development, resume writing, and successful interview preparation.

According to Brady Engel, a U.S. student currently completing his internship at SIUT:

“Interning at SIUT has given me not only new knowledge and professional experience, but also the opportunity to better understand different cultures around the world. Working with professors and students, making new friends, and collaborating on projects have been a very interesting and valuable experience for me.”

It is worth noting that one of the most important outcomes of the memorandum of cooperation with REI is the active involvement of American professors and specialists in SIUT’s educational process. In recent years, within the framework of this partnership, nearly 10 professors and specialists from various U.S. universities and organizations have worked at the university, delivering lectures, seminars, training sessions, and practical classes for students. Today, they continue to share their knowledge and experience with SIUT students, contributing to the development of an educational environment that meets international standards.

Today, SIUT demonstrates international cooperation not merely through signed memorandums, but through concrete results. Foreign professors teach in classrooms, international projects are carried out in laboratories, and students gain experience working alongside peers from different countries.

At SIUT, international cooperation works in practice. Knowledge, experience, and opportunities are bringing people from different parts of the world to Samarkand.
