SIUT Explores the Boundaries of Artificial Intelligence in Modern Journalism

From cave paintings to the printing press, humanity has always sought new languages to communicate with reality. Today, the world has crossed yet another threshold — one where artificial intelligence is becoming the journalist's key interlocutor. Samarkand International University of Technology provided a platform for this professional dialogue, hosting the presentation of the monograph “Modern Journalism and Artificial Intelligence: Prospects and Challenges”.

The event was opened by SIUT Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation, Professor Mohammad Reza Bahrami. He highlighted the university's mission as a technological and intellectual hub, a driver of progress not only in engineering thought but also in the humanities, including modern media.

The discussion brought together authoritative figures from the media industry. Chairman of the Samarkand Regional Branch of the Union of Journalists of Uzbekistan Akram Khaydarov, Editor-in-Chief of the “Ovozi Samarkand” newspaper Bakhodur Rakhmonov, and renowned journalist Shakhlo Akhrorova emphasized in their speeches that technological progress brings issues of professional ethics and journalistic responsibility to the forefront.

An expert assessment of technological advancement was provided by representatives of SIUT's international academic community. Dean of the School of Computing, Professor Mohammad Gouse Galety, and international expert Tan Zabdiel Naldoza thoroughly examined the technical aspects of AI implementation. They noted that artificial intelligence will not replace the journalist but can significantly accelerate and simplify their work.

Prof. Naldoza also stressed the critical importance of fact-checking: AI is a powerful tool, yet any generated information requires thorough human verification.

The monograph presentation also featured analytical reports by School of Computing students Diyor Zokirov and Kamilla Abdullayeva. They delivered an in-depth analysis of such phenomena as deepfakes, disinformation, and the use of generative intelligence in the media landscape.

The monograph presentation at SIUT marked a significant step toward strengthening collaboration between the school of traditional journalism and modern technology. Artificial intelligence was embraced by the participants not as a threat to the profession, but as a new instrument of journalistic craft in the realities of the digital age.
