Tashkent branch of the National Research Nuclear University "MEPhI"

In December 2017, a cooperation agreement on the peaceful use of atomic energy was signed in Tashkent between the State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom and the Government of Uzbekistan. The document established the legal basis for bilateral cooperation between the two countries in the peaceful use of atomic energy. The construction and operation of nuclear power plants utilize the most modern and advanced technologies, requiring highly qualified specialists with in-depth knowledge and practical skills. Given the complexity of the problems and the need for a comprehensive and systemic solution, it is crucial to attract young domestic scientists and engineers to the nuclear industry who are capable of ensuring Uzbekistan's economic development. Therefore, a decision was made to establish a branch of the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI in Tashkent. The branch of the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI in Tashkent, Republic of Uzbekistan, was established by the Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation D.A. Medvedev and the Resolution of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sh.M. Mirziyoyev's decree of July 20, 2018, No. PP-3875, "On the establishment and organization of the activities of the branch of the Federal State Autonomous Higher Educational Institution "National Research Nuclear University MEPhI" in Tashkent." The branch trains highly qualified engineering and technical personnel in line with international educational standards, capable of solving the most important scientific, technological, and production problems in nuclear physics and technology, as well as conducting fundamental and applied scientific research. In March 2026, concrete pouring began for the foundation of Central Asia's first nuclear power plant, which is being built in the Jizzakh region. The project is being implemented under the intergovernmental agreement between Uzbekistan and the Russian Federation on cooperation in the peaceful use of atomic energy. The integrated NPP will include: two power units with VVER-1000 reactors, each with a capacity of 1000 MW; Two power units with RITM-200N small modular reactors, each with a capacity of 55 MW. Concurrent with the construction of the nuclear power plant, a city for nuclear workers is being built, complete with residential and social infrastructure for future plant workers and their families. The project is of strategic importance for the energy security and sustainable development of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

We have a very convenient and comfortable dormitory for our international students. The dormitory is located 500 meters from the branch, and the surrounding area is rich in greenery and fresh air.

Student Entry Visa (based on interuniversity exchange — for temporary study period)

Issued to foreign students who are undergoing short-term studies (for up to one year) at higher educational institutions located in the territory of the Republic of Uzbekistan, based on interuniversity exchange or within the framework of interuniversity cooperation. The visa is issued upon the request of educational institutions, ministries, agencies, and organizations of the Republic of Uzbekistan that have educational institutions under their jurisdiction.

Student Entry Visa (on a long-term basis — for the period of study)

Issued to foreign students studying at educational institutions located in the territory of the Republic of Uzbekistan for a period of up to one year. It is formalized upon the request of educational institutions, ministries, departments, and organizations of the Republic of Uzbekistan that have an educational institution under their jurisdiction.

Abdunazarov Mardon, a student of the Faculty of Physics of the Tashkent State University of Physics and Technology, became the winner of the International Olympiad in Engineering Physics, which allows for admission to the Master's degree program of the Tashkent State University of Physics and Technology without exams. Yakubova Shahzoda was solemnly escorted to the 5th scientific and educational Arctic expedition of Rosatom “Knowledge Ice Cream-2024”. The participants of the event wished her good luck and success, wishing her to achieve successful scientific results on this important journey. In accordance with the order of the Uzatom Agency No. 11 dated February 14, 2023, Tojibayeva Dilfuza Muzaffarovna, a student of the 4th year of the TF19-132 group, became the recipient of a scholarship of the Director General of the Uzatom Agency for the fall semester of 2022-2023. Dilshod Otaganov, a student of the Tashkent branch of the Moscow State University of Management and Economics, became the recipient of the State Scholarship of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan. Two students of the Tashkent branch of the Moscow State University of Management and Economics, Jamshid Melikuziev and Ahror Bahronov, became the recipients of the UZBEKISTAN GTL Company Scholarship.
